I might come off as a sarcastic person, but I am not 😈

So this is for the people who think it’s a misfortune that I am on a wheelchair today, but I don’t think so and let me tell you why…

So before going to a wheelchair, I did walk for almost 25 years of my life. Yeah, even after Ataxia crept out from the dark. I would walk like someone who just had ā€œ4 bottle vodkaā€. First, I would use chairs as my walkers and the walls were my support system and I was called ā€œGoda Pappaā€ (the girl who holds on to the walls) and then, as my balance got out of hand, I would grab somebody’s arm and wobble my way around. May be a year later, my balance was totally fucked. It was like 8 bottle vodka minus the vomit. At that time, I needed two people to hold on to. The funniest part was, people would see me walking (if you can still call it that), come running and ask what happened! Then, I finally started using a wheelchair in 2016 because I knew that if I tried any harder, my lungs would thump forward like the airbags of a BMW that just hit a tree.

So to put that all together, I did struggle a lot, it was not like I got diagnosed and came out of the doctor’s room in a wheelchair. I tried, I walked even when walking was the most painful thing I ever hand to undergo. It was physically and emotionally draining and the pain that my parents felt seen me walk like that was another level of suffering.

Did you cry??? So here is a little treat for you…

I was reluctant to sit on a wheelchair for several years but when I finally did, it was liberating. It was an awakening, I could wheel myself to places where my legs failed to take me. When I tried to walk, I always ended up on the ground, but with the wheelchair, I have a middle ground, I may not be standing but I didn’t fall and that’s a good thing right?

So whoever feels sorry that I am on a wheelchair, thanks for the concern, but being on a wheelchair is not a bad thing at all.

People eat to stay alive and I use a wheelchair to stay mobile!
