Is winning greater than the experience?

I was just scrolling through my insta and I just saw a status that read “yeah you lost!” It could have been a harmless comment from one friend to another and I just moved on to the next story. But there was something that stayed with me, even after I closed the app.

“YEAH YOU LOST!”

It isn’t so harmful right? But why have I been thinking about it? Well, a lot of thought into it (involves time in the bathroom where I get to indulge in some parallel world thoughts) and I started to fathom how the focus has shifted from winning for ourselves to winning something in order to defeat someone. This is so wrong right? But then, the bigger question popped up…

IS WINNING GREATER THAN THE EXPERIENCE?

We all have be taught about the story of the rabbit and the tortoise and the lesson that we learnt was about trying and never giving up and I do agree with that. But what about the lesson that we get to learn from the rabbit? Was it mere overconfidence or did the rabbit suffer from the exhaustive running or did it stop because she saw something really beautiful and eventually slept? Was the rabbit trying to teach us a bigger lesson… to enjoy life as we know it and give way to someone who needs the victory stamp? Why don’t we ever focus on that and teach everyone that winning is the only godly way???

Here, let me share a personal experience with you, dear readers:

So back in school, there was this selfishly studious class leader and nobody liked her. We were in class 6, when one of the teachers asked us what we wanted to be. The class leader was quick to say that she wanted to be a doctor. Since that day, she distanced herself from her friends, stayed away from all things fun and the only thing she did was study. I don’t know if she enjoyed it, but she was putting it all to win the dream.

Years later, when we all gathered for a school reunion, she missed it and later that night, she shared a long post on how she missed the best years of her life because of her dream to have a successful career and today, even after achieving it, she is missing out on the fun because she has to live by the success she earned.

Reading the post melted my heart, isn’t it true? We are all running a stupid race to win but then, we are ignoring the essence of the race – the fun and the experiencing of taking part in the race! I’ve been a victim, but now, I am trying to get over it and you could too!

Live your Life, Don't Sustain

To the people who were too lazy to read it all…

Winning isn’t greater than the experience itself!
